  56. Wellllll, maybe I need to qualify what I said before.  If you're 
  57. following this newsgroup, you may have seen some postings from me 
  58. regarding disconnect problems.

  60. The modem _has_ been working flawlessly with my connection to my ISP, 
  61. both through a shell account and PPP using Trumpet Winsock (v.2.1f).  An 
  62. init string of AT&F1 seems to be fine for the shell account.

  64. In Trumpet Winsock, I'm not sure where the init string came from - I 
  65. might have carried it over from an older version and an older modem.  The 
  66. only thing I'm sure I added myself is the L0 to lower the speaker 
  67. volume.  FWIW, here it is: AT &K3 X6 &B1 &H1 &R2 S0=0 L0.  Since the 
  68. modem worked on the first try, I didn't even look at the init string.  
  69. I'm using Windows 3.11, not Windows 95.  I disabled the system com2 port 
  70. and installed the modem as com2, IRQ3.

  72. I am, however, having disconnect problems with my account at work via PC 
  73. Anywhere.  Tomorrow, I will find out what kind of modem(s) they have at 
  74. their end.  That may help.  Meanwhile, I've been experimenting with 
  75. S-register tweaking in the init string with PC Anywhere.

  77. Last week it looked like adding S15=128 did the trick (that disables V.42 
  78. operation).  I connected with work at a high speed (maybe 28800 or 26400 
  79. or even 24000, I don't remember) and I stayed connected for about a half 
  80. hour or so, experimenting with uploads and downloads in the process.  
  81. Everything seemed solid.  Well, it didn't last.  I started suffering 
  82. random disconnects again.  Presently (last try), I disabled the 3429 rate 
  83. and 3200 symbol rate (S33=48), which seems to limit the connect speed to 
  84. 24000 (I think).  I had tried S33=32, but that didn't fix the problem.  
  85. The latest tweak seems to be working, but there were some delays in 
  86. keyboard response from time to time of several seconds or more.  An ATI6 
  87. after the last session showed about 6 "Link Timeouts," but everything 
  88. else looked perfect.

  90. I hope I haven't put you to sleep.  Maybe some of the same tweaks would 
  91. help your situation.
